CWS 10-13-2 DET 3-7-3 Sox scored 5 in the 6th to chase Jim Bunning and coasted from there. Early Wynn pitched 7/1-3 strong innings to get the win, and contributed with his bat, going 3-3 with 3 RBI. Al Kaline provided most of the Tiger offense with a 2-run homer off Wynn in the 8th. The loss was the first for Detroit this season after 4 wins.
WSH 8-14- 2 CLE 6-12-1 Pete Daley's 2-run single provided Washington with the eventual winning runs in the 7th as they stunned the Indians for their 4th win in 6 games. 6 different Senator hitters collected 2 hits in the victory, with Willie Tasby producing a 2-run triple in the 3rd. The Indians have dropped 4 of their first 5 games.
MIN 5-11-1 BAL 2-10-0 GM1: Lenny Green and Jim Lemon collected 3 hits each as the Twins took the opening game of a doubleheader in Baltimore. Lemon homered in the 3rd, while Green added an insurance run to round out the game 1 scoring. Jim Kaat went the distance for Minny.
MIN 3-8-1 BAL 1-7-1 GM2 (10): Harmon Killebrew's 2-run homer off Hoyt Wilhelm in the top of the 10th gave the Twins the comeback victory and the doubleheader sweep. The Twins rallied with 2 outs in the top of the 9th on singles by Reno Bertoia and Billy Gardner, followed by a pinch-hit single by Don Mincher to tie the score. Lenny Green's lead-off triple in the top of the 10th set up Killebrew's clutch clout. Green had 6 hits in the twin bill.
NYY 21-18-1 KCA 4-10-6 GM1: Elston Howard paced an 18-hit attack in game 1 with 3 hits and 6 RBI, including a grand slam and a solo homer in the game 1 victory. Ralph Terry pitched 7 strong innings to earn the victory, highlighted by a 13-batter, 8-run 1st inning.
NYY 7-14-2 KCA 6-11-0 GM2: Mickey Mantle capped a furious 9th inning rally with an RBI double off Bill Kunkel to earn the DH sweep. Yogi Berra's 2-run double off Kunkel set up Mantle's game-ending hit, capping a rally from a 6-run deficit that gave Whitey Ford an early shower.
LAA 4-5-1 BOS 5-7-1 GM1: Don Buddin's 2-run double in the 6th supplied the go-ahead runs as the Bosox took the first of 2 from the Halos. The Angels got home runs from Julio Becquer and Leon Wagner, but Mike Forneieles' strong right arm saved it for winning pitcher Billy Muffett.
LAA 3-5-0 BOS 5-7-0 GM2: Vic Wertz's 3-run 1st inning homer held up as Bill Monbouquette shut down the winless Angels to sweep the twin bill and run up the Bosox's record to 5-0. Monbo helped his own cause with an RBI double in the 3rd inning. Eli Grba walked himself out of this one, walking 7 in 2-1/3 innings.
