4/22/67: White Sox-Senators

Senators smash Chisox, end win streak at 7 Washington, Apr 22-The Washington Senators ended the Chicago White Sox win streak with an impressive power display, smashing the Pale Hose, 8-3. Nen starts it off After a scoreless inning and a half, the Sens started unloading off Joel Horlen with a lead-off double by Frank Howard, then Dick Nen unloaded on a Horlen fastball, sending it to left field for a 2-0 Senator lead. The White Sox struck for 3 in the top of the 5th off Phil Ortega on a pair of doubles by Don Buford, which scored Ron Hansen and by Tommie Agee, who scored Buford and Tommy McCraw, giving the Sox a 3-2 lead. The roof caves in The Senators would grab the lead back in the bottom of the 5th on a pair of 2-run homers, sending the roof crashing down on the White Sox. After Paul Casanova led off the inning with a single to right and subsequent bunt to 2nd by Ortega, Eddie Brinkman cradled the left field foul pole for a rare home run, giving the Senators the lead for good. 4/22/67: Twins-Tigers

Northrup's single rallies Tigers to wild win over Twins Detroit, Apr 22-Jim Northrup's 2-run single with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th rallied the Tigers to a wild 7-6 win over the Minnesota Twins in a game the Tigers had complete control of through 8 innings until a miraculous Twins comeback of 6 runs in the top of the 9th forced the Tigers into catch-up mode.  Lolich in command  The Tigers lefty had the Twins stymied through the first 8 innings, allowing 3 hits. He had plenty of run support as the Tigers scored 1 in the 2nd, 3 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th. The Tigers 3rd inning rally began with a lead-off home run by Don Wert, followed by an error by 3rd baseman Rich Rollins allowing Dick McAuliffe to reach. Mickey Stanley then doubled McAuliffe to 3rd, who would then be forced out on a Al Kaline FC to 2nd. With the infield in, Northrup grounded to 1st moving Kaline to 2nd, then Bill Freehan singled in both Stanley and Kaline to extend the Tigers lead to 4-0.  A collap...

4/21/67: Reds-Astros

League-leading Reds outrun Astros in 10, 3-2 The league-leading Cincinnati Reds slipped past the Astros indoors by a 3-2 score in 10 innings. After Lee May led off the 10th by flying out to right, Tommy Helms, who had earlier tripled and doubled, drew a walk off Mike Cuellar. After Leo Cardenas struck out, catcher Don Pavletich singled to Jimmy Wynn in center, whose throw was not strong enough to prevent Helms from going to 3rd.  A bad hop by Morgan After an Astro pitching change from Cuellar to Carroll Sembera, the Reds pinch-hit for pitcher Don Nottebart with Floyd Robinson. Robinson hit a weak grounder to Joe Morgan which took a bad hop off Morgan's glove, letting in Helms with the go-ahead run. Bullpen ace Ted Abernathy came on in the bottom half of the inning and retired the side 1-2-3 to secure the win for Nottebart, who relieved starter Billy McCool. Cuellar took the tough-luck loss. NOTES: McCool struck out 10 Astros in 7 innings. The Reds bullpen struck out 3 more a...
