The Indians scored their 3 runs on 5 hits in the 3rd off Frank Lary, while Bell held the Tigers hitless until Rocky Colavito's one-out single in the 7th broke up the no-hit bid. Bubba Morton's lead-off pinch single in the 9th started the Tigers' furious rally, he then scored on Jake Wood's triple, Wood himself scoring on Bill Bruton's RBI single. Frank Funk then took over for Bell and retired Al Kaline on a line drive to 3rd, Bruton stole 2nd, Colavito grounded out to Funk, Bruton to 3rd, Cash grounded out to Temple at 2nd to end the game.

WSH 11-11-0 CWS 5-10-2 Gene Green slugged 3 home runs, driving in 4 runs as the Senators outslugged the White Sox in the Comiskey Park home opener. Harry Bright also homered twice for the Sens. Jim Landis homered for the Sox, whose usual "Go-Go" was muted as Luis Aparicio was twice caught stealing.

LAA 2-3-1 NYY 1-4-2 RBI singles by Ted Kluszewski and Eddie Yost, combined with the 4-hit pitching of Ned Garver and Tom Morgan led the Halos to their first franchise victory against the Yankees in The Bronx. Yost's 2-out single in the 7th off Bob Turley scored Ken Hunt with what proved to be the winning run.

MIN 10-16-2 BOS 4-9-1 Earl Battey slugged a pair of 3-run homers and drove in another run with a single as the Twins handed the Red Sox their first loss of the season at Fenway. Camillo Pascual pitched 6-2/3 innings of solid baseball before running out of gas in the 7th. Ray Moore pitched 2-1/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn the save.

BAL 4-7-1 KCA 1-5-0 Steve Barber struck out 7 in a complete game 5-hitter as the Orioles made a 3-run 1st inning stand up and got an insurance run in the 6th via Earl Robinson's 1st homer of the season. The Birds snapped a 3-game losing streak with their 4th win in 7 games.
