A day of protest...

On the actual May 6 schedule, the Giants beat the Cubs in a wild G1 of a DH, 11-9 in 11 innings. The game ended up being played under protest because of a crazy bottom of the 4th, where a coach got waylaid in a wild brawl. Thanks to some sloppy bookkeeping, G1 of the Cubs-Giants ended up "under protest" as I gave the Cubs 2 extra AB's after a inning-ending DP in the top of the 8th. Those extra AB's allowed the Giants to tie with 2 runs in the 9th and a walk-off 2-run homer by Tito Fuentes in the bottom of 12th. Here's the DH summary and the rest of the 5/6/ sked:

Game 1: San Francisco 7-12-1 Chicago 5-14-1 WP-Sosa LP-LaRoche Fuentes walk-off HR in 12th.

Game 2: San Francisco 6-9-1 Chicago 3-11-1 WP-Willoughby LP-Gura Dave Kingman 2 homers, 3 RBI Fuentes also homers.

Houston 9-14-1 New York 1-5-1 WP-Reuss LP Parker Cedeno 3-4, 5 RBI, 2 stolen bases.

Atlanta 11-15-1 Philadelphia 9-15-1 WP-Gentry LP-Christenson SV-Niekro Dusty Baker, 2 doubles, triple, 3 RBI.

Montreal 7-12-1 Cincinnati 4-8-1 WP-Marshall LP-Carroll Mike Jorgenson homer.

San Diego 8-11-1 Pittsburgh 1-4-0 WP-Caldwell LP-Moose Grubb 3-4, home run, 4 RBI.

Los Angeles 5-10-0 St. Louis 0-7-1 WP-Downing LP-Foster SV-Hough Ferguson home run.

1973: LCS Game 3's

ALCS: Merv Rettenmund got things started for the Orioles with a lead-off homer off the HR check, but Ken Holtzman would keep the Birdmen of Baltimore in check the rest of the game as the A's went to the longball and the smallball to take a 2-1 series lead. The A's tied it in the bottom of the 1st on Sal Bando's round trip. The small ball came via Bert Campaneris, who drew a 1-out walk in the bottom of the 5th and stole 2nd. Joe Rudi chased him home with a 2-bagger, giving the A's a lead they would not give up. Reggie Jackson, Gene Tenace and Deron Johnson saw to that in the bottom of the 8th, chasing Mike Cuellar from the game with back-to-back-to-back home runs. Jackson's homer came with Sal Bando on base. Final: Oakland 6, Baltimore 1. A's lead series 2-1 NLCS: The series-trailing Mets did what they had to do to force game 4, putting together a 12-hit attack to stun the Reds 7-3 at Shea. The Reds jumped off to a 2-0 lead after 2-1/2, putting the Mets on early ...
