Some 4/22/61 highlights...
Twins remain undefeated at 8-0 after toppling the Senators 11-4 behind Pedro Ramos and a 6-run outburst in the 5th and 4 more in the 6th. The Yankees took the 1st game of a day-night DH from the Orioles behind the power of the "M & M Boys" in the matinee, 4-3. Mantle and Maris were a combined 4-7, accounting for 2 runs scored each and a 2-run homer by Maris. The nightcap however, despite the box score you are about to see, did not involve the "Boys."

The Yanks batted around and then some in the 1st, sending 15 batters against starter Hal Brown and reliever Milt Pappas. Brown recorded only 1 out and served up a grand slam to Moose Skowron. Brown surrendered 9 runs in that horrid 1/3 of an inning. Pappas fared a little better, allowing 4 runs before being relieved in the 7th. The Yanks led 11-0 after 2-1/2 behind Jim Coates. Starting in the bottom of the 3rd, the Orioles began unraveling Coates.
The Birds pecked away with a run in the bottom of the 3rd, and 3 in the 4th and 5th, cutting the lead to 11-7. The Yanks scored 2 more in the 6th to rebuild their lead for Coates, but in the 6th and 7th, the Birds drew even with 2 in the 6th and 4 in the 7th, highlighted in the 7th by a 3-run blast by Brooks Robinson and a PH HR by Gene Stephens, erasing that mammoth 11-0 hole. Ryne Duren allowed both homers.
With the nightcap evened at 13, both teams exchanged runs in the 8th and goose eggs in the 9th. In the Yankee 10th, RP Luis Arroyo drew a 2-out walk and advanced to 3rd on Bobby Richardson's 4th hit of the game. The rally ended on Johnny Blanchard's force out to 1st. In the bottom of the 10th, Dick Williams' 2nd consecutive double put the winning run on. Jim Gentile flied to right for the 1st out, followed by 4 intentionally wide ones to Gus Triandos. Brooks Robinson took a called 3rd strike, then Ron Hansen calmly sent the fans home happy with a single to deep center ending a most improbable ball game where 29 runs were scored on a combined 37 hits. With all that offense, you may ask, how did the M & M boys do in the nightcap? Here's the combined answer:
1-6, a combined 6 walks, with Maris collecting the only hit between them, a single. He also walked 4 times, but did score 3 runs. Bobby Richardson had 4 hits, including 2 doubles, while Moose managed 5 RBIs with his slam, needing only a double for the cycle. Tony Kubek drove in 4 runs. For the Birds, Hansen had 3 singles, including the game-winner and Gus Triandos managed a near-cycle as well, needing only a triple. WP-Billy Hoeft LP-Arroyo.
One last thing, this original 4/22/61 game was actually rain-shortened and declared a tie after 7 innings with the score 5-5. On the roll of the dice, you can make your own history.
