Back to 1965 and a 14-"K"arat gold performance by Gibby

Decided to commence the 60th anniversary of the 1965 season by starting out with an opener at Wrigley Field that ended up historically in a 10-10 tie. Bob Gibson's famed right arm saw to it that would end up in something other than a wild-and-wooly tie.

STL (1-0) 5-10-4 CHC (0-1) 1-4-2 LOB: STL 7 CHC 10. WP-Gibson (1-0) LP-Larry Jackson (0-1)

Bob Gibson: 9 IP, 1 R (0 ER), 4 H, 14 K, 3 BB.

Just a bit sloppy: Cards (4) and Cubs (2) combined for 6 errors.

Who was the idiot who replaced Larry Jackson with Cal Koonce? Lou Brock greeted Koonce with a 3-run homer in the 9th to ice the Cards win.

Larry Jackson: 8.1 IP, 5 R (4 ER), 3 K, 2 BB.

Cardinal sin: The recipient of Jackson's 2 walks was Bob Gibson.

Gibby's victims: Glenn Beckert (2), George Altman (3), Jackson, Billy Williams (2), Dick Bertell (3), Roberto Pena, Len Gabrielson, Jimmy Stewart.

Next game in replay, MIL (Cloninger) at CIN (O'Toole)
